City Manager — City of Helena, Montana

This position is located in Helena, MT

Salary: $175,000–$205,000 DOE • First Review: November 5, 2025 (Open Until Filled)

Lead Montana's capital city—an organization of ~380 talented employees across eleven departments with an FY 2026 budget of $113.25 million. Reporting to the City Commission, the City Manager advances Helena's Strategic Plan and delivers efficient, transparent, community-focused services.

• Champion high-performing, accountable teams and a culture of service.
• Drive smart growth, infrastructure investment, and fiscal stewardship.
• Build trusted relationships with the Commission, staff, partners, and residents.

What You Bring

• Bachelor degree in public administration, business/finance, or related field (master's preferred).
• Seven+ years progressive local-government leadership; ICMA-CM preferred.
• Strength in budgeting, capital planning, labor relations, and community/economic development.
• Clear, inclusive communication and collaborative problem-solving.

Compensation & Benefits

$175,000–$205,000 DOE plus comprehensive benefits: generous paid leave, health insurance, life insurance, car allowance, and employer retirement contributions (9% to PERS and 8% to deferred compensation).
