Job Type Contract / Independent Consultant (1099) Location Southern California Must hold active California PLS license About Us We are a construction staking and mapping services firm serving commercial, residential, and public works projects throughout Southern California . We work closely with contractors, engineers, and developers to deliver accurate, reliable surveying services that keep projects moving on time and on budget. Position Overview We are seeking an experienced and licensed Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) to provide construction staking and mapping services on a project-by-project consulting basis . This role is ideal for a PLS who enjoys flexible, contract-based work and wants to partner with a growing firm. Responsibilities Perform and/or oversee construction staking for grading, utilities, structures, roadways, and site features. Produce topographic surveys, mapping, and as-builts for project documentation and permitting. Provide layout calculations from civil plans, CAD files, and coordinate systems. Ensure all work meets project specifications and complies with California surveying laws. Sign and seal survey documents and maps under your license. Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and contractors to ensure accuracy and deadlines are met. Qualifications Active California Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license in good standing. Minimum 5 years' experience in construction staking and mapping. Skilled in total stations, GPS/RTK, and data collection software. Strong knowledge of California Coordinate System and civil construction plans. Ability to work independently as a 1099 consultant and provide own insurance; personal equipment preferred.
