Description

The Communications and Storytelling Manager at NMCDC will lead communication strategies to promote the organization's mission of building community power, thriving neighborhoods, and affordable homes. Responsibilities include crafting narratives, managing media channels, translating housing policies into accessible content, and developing community voices. The role requires close collaboration with staff and stakeholders to communicate effectively, track metrics, and support fundraising efforts. This position offers a chance to amplify community voices and connect members to community-driven development.

Responsibilities
  1. Strategic Communication Planning
  • Develop and implement strategies to utilize NMCDCs public voice to advance its mission.
  • Share NMCDCs work, programs, and events through multiple channels.
  • Develop responsive communication strategies related to key issues.
  • Track and analyze communication metrics to evaluate and improve strategies.
  • Content Creation and Storytelling
    • Create engaging content for social media, newsletters, press releases, and website.
    • Produce visual materials like posters, graphics, and videos.
    • Share community stories with respect and authenticity.
    • Manage social media presence and analyze engagement metrics.
    • Maintain and update the NMCDC website.
  • Community and Donor Communications
    • Communicate effectively with members and supporters.
    • Develop donor communication strategies, including appeals and impact reports.
    • Support advocacy messaging.
    • Organize and promote community events.
  • Policy Communication and Advocacy
    • Translate complex housing tools into accessible content.
    • Develop materials advocating for equitable land use policies.
    • Stay informed on local and statewide housing policies.
    • Support fundraising through communication materials.
    • Assist in organizing fundraising events.
    Minimum Requirements
    • Commitment to housing justice, equity, and understanding systemic barriers.
    • Bachelor's degree in relevant fields or equivalent experience.
    • 3-5 years in communications, with strategic planning experience.
    • Strong writing and visual content creation skills.
    • Experience with digital tools like Mailchimp, Canva, Squarespace, and social media.
    • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Masters degree or equivalent experience.
    • Nonprofit experience, especially in communications.
    • Ability to translate complex policies into accessible content.
    • Media relations experience.
    • Proficiency in analytics tools.
    • Interest in community advocacy and growth.
    • Reliable transportation and valid Montana drivers license.
